What Is the Most Fun Family Board Game?
Game nights are fun because it’s not always feasible to play outdoors, especially when older people are involved. They might have limited mobility or tire easily, which is why playing board games indoors can be an engaging alternative.
Now, we know what you’re thinking — everybody wants the most fun family board game. Since we’re so used to digital stimuli, many board games tend to get boring. It’s also not possible to rank one game as the most fun. What’s fun for one family member might be boring for another, right? So, we decided to hook you up with five really cool family board games:
Scrabble
If you haven’t played scrabble, you’re missing out. It’s a game everybody loves and can play. It’s a word game — each player is given a set number of tiles and each tile has one letter of the English alphabet on it. You have to use those tiles and make all possible word combinations you can come up with.
The score is noted on a separate piece of paper and the points are tallied at the end of the game. Whoever makes the most word combinations, wins. You’ll also have to keep a dictionary around. Why? It’ll be your only way out once the validity of the word you make gets challenged.
Monopoly
Monopoly originated in 1935 — if you love real estate, this is for you. Each player uses their money and buys properties. You can make income during the game by charging rent from other players whenever they land on your property. Whoever bankrupts the other opponents first, wins. It’s a game that involves risk and requires luck — you also have to avoid jail time.
The game can take quite a while to complete — you have to create a monopoly where you’re rich enough and buy multiple properties across the board so that your opponents are unable to pay their rents.
Battleship
This is an excellent game for boys. Both the players have two grids of 10×10. One grid is used to make a nice strategic placement of your own battleships and track their progress and the other grid is used to deliver attacks on your opponent’s battleships. Whoever destroys the opponent’s battleships first, wins.
Pictionary
Pictionary is one of the most fun games out there. There are even digital versions of it now but if you need the original, full-fledged board game experience, all you need is a pen, paper, a board and a stand. Each player gets their turn and draws something on the board after picking a card (the card mentions the name of the thing that you have to draw). As a person draws, the others have to guess what is being drawn — if the others are able to guess right, it’s considered as a win for the drawer.
Speak Out
This is one of the games Ellen DeGeneres plays on her show. One of the players wears a mouthpiece that makes it difficult to properly pronounce a word. The player picks up a card with a word written on it and tries to speak this word. The other players have to guess the word. It’s not exactly a board game but can be really fun if you make it competitive and set a race to five points.
Final Words
The above-mentioned board games are fun for many and one of them will likely click with your family. If those games cease being fun for you, try going with Uno, Ludo or Sequence for a change.
